I've been evaluating BuildMaster for the past couple of days and have worked out how to do more or less everything I need to except one fairly major task.

Currently we are using Visual Studio's Publish Web tool which deploys all core website files (over 30 projects), core JS and core CSS files to the website selected. Each website has three publish profiles - dev, test, live.
Each website also has a set of unique assets - CSS, JS, images and templates and these are uploaded separately to a CDN from another Visual Studio solution.

The core website code is common to all websites as is the database structure.

What is the best way to set up BuildMaster to handle this situation?

So far, in BuildMaster I have created an application to hold the core project and a second project for testing the concept of fetching all the components needed to build the website including the core project.

Any help or guidance is definitely appreciated.

Chris

Hi

I can't find any documentation or knowledge base articles about what each of the settings on the Advanced Settings page does.

I'm particularly interested in the CustomHomePageHtml and/or IntegrationUrl settings, but am not sure how to use these.

Also (and possibly related), is it possible to disable the Inedo news feed on the main page.

Thanks
Riko

Hi,

I am trying to upload a package _PublishedApplications 2.4.0.0 (from cloud Nuget feed), but the upload into ProGet seems to silently fail. I tried file upload and command line push. Any reasons why this would happen?

Hello,

We have about 50 Applications on our build-master. These applications have a nummber of build executions daily and thus create a large number of artifacts. We would like to know if there is way we can configure build master to keep a certain number of artifacts or to delete the articafts for rejected builds?

Thanks

As a short term fix for the database size limitations in SQLExpress, we need to purge old records from the database.

We have already purged the log records and BuildOutputs, BuildTestResults, EventOccurenceDetails and EventOccurences.

However the BuildExecution_PlanActionVariableValues table is using approx 3.3GB of space and we do not need to keep this data for builds older than say 3 weeks.

Can you please provide some SQL which will delete old records from this table and any other linked tables.

I cannot upload a Nuget Package to my Nuget feed. When I click "Add Package", I select the packae I want to upload then it acts like it uploads the package, but the package does not show up in my feed. I also tried uploading a package from nuget and it does the same thing, act like it uploaded but doesn't display my package.

  1. How can I get the FTP action to work in binary mode? I never want isolated \n (newline) characters translated into \r\n (return, newline) characters.

  2. How can I disable this action? The [show all options] link does nothing.

Not sure where to post this but I was wondering if you had a user tracking feature on your backlog.
What I am looking for is the ability to track what user downloads what packages on a per feed basis. If this could be logged into a table in the database this would be all that I need to get the data. I need this for regulatory purposes and in order to make Proget my Enterprise solution for package management. If this is on your backlog can you tell me when it might be coming out.

Hi,

We have been suffering intermittent failures when trying to publish packages from our build server to our ProGet package server for several months now. We are seeing the following error in the Jenkins build logs:

Failed to process request. 'There was an error processing the request: The process cannot access the file 'C:\ProgramData\ProGet\Packages\Default\Package.1.1.0-alpha.nupkg' because it is being used by another process.'. EXEC : The remote server returned an error : (500) Internal Server Error.

There doesn't seem to be much consistency as to when this error occurs. Also, we have a ScratchPad and Default feed. Each build step publishes to our ScratchPad feed once it completes and then once all stages have build successfully there is a complete publish of all newly built packages to the Default feed. We have seen examples of failures publishing to both feeds.

We have monitored the C:\ProgramData\ProGet\Packages directory with Sysinternals Process Monitor and noticed that when the publish failed there was a SHARING VIOLATION when ProGet.Service.exe tried to create the newly built package on the package server. It seems the sharing violation was due to the fact that ProGet.Service.exe had started reading the package just before it tried to publish the latest version, so ProGet.Services.exe had locked the file.

There were no other processes observed (such as virus scanners) which had a handle on the file in question that might have caused the SHARING VIOLATION, hence it feels like there is perhaps an issue with ProGet blocking itself.

If it helps you diagnose the problem we can provide an export of the Process Monitor output at the time of the failure.

Deployment plans can be exported/imported as XML which is great.

Is there a way to export/import other settings like application variables/settings, workflows and triggers ?.

We need this as we are stuck with using SQLExpress for now due to financial constraints, and our database is approx 9GB which is nearly at the limit of SQLExpress.

Our thought is to export all the application settings, then reinstall Buildmaster with a blank database and import the settings. Of course we will loose the deployment history (but can review it from a database backup if needed).

If we set the working directory of a task to ~\bin the bni directory is not being automatically created hence we get the following exception when the task runs. The workaround is to create the bin directory manually.

Should Buildmaster create the bin directory manually ?

Hi,

Is there a way we can hide the proget deploy features as we won't be using them and are worried they could cause confusion among our users who should be using a different deployment tool.

Thanks,

Hi

When I am using NuGet Package Explorer with ProGet, it tries to query previous versions of packages by using the http://myfeed/FindPackagesById() data service.

This service is part of the standard NuGet.Server package that can be hosted in an ASP.NET project, and exists on the NuGet Gallery (https://www.nuget.org/packages/NuGet.Server).

However, this data service is not available for the ProGet feed url. Can it be added?

Thanks
Riko

Hi guy,
we had some timeouts and a very very slow search result over nuget.exe with Proget.

In the Database we added an Index to the table "dbo.Packages" Index key columns ae ("Feed_Id", "Package_id", "Version_Text")

For the moment it works pls check this and the View "Packages_Extended" it is very slow

Is it possible to move from SQLExpress to MySQL view import/export of the database or do we need to reinstall Buildmaster and create the Buildmaster applications from scratch ?

Our Buildmaster database is over 6GBytes in size and Buildmaster can no longer perform deployments as it always gets a timeout. The SQLExpress process consumes an entire CPU as soon as you start a deployment.

We have restarted the Buildmaster and SQLExpress services and rebooted the machine but no improvement.

I suspect the problem is to do with the database size - much of the data is for deployments we do not want to keep history for.

How can we deleted the history from the database ?
