After upgrading, our NuGet connector no longer functions. When browsing the feed on ProGet it reports, "Unable to connect to the remote server". I also deleted the feed and re-created it using the default connector and settings (http://www.nuget.org/api/v2/). We are behind a proxy and the proxy settings are configured and test successfully when targeting https://www.nuget.org and http://www.nuget.org.

We can access NuGet directly through the proxy just fine.

Thanks,
Andy

It takes many seconds to browse or search through a ProGet NuGet feed from Visual Studio (both proxy feeds to nuget.org and private feeds).
Sometimes we even need to cancel the search operation and retry because we get no results.

I already tried some things which seem to be an improvement:

  • Configure the IIS application pool StartMode to AlwaysRunning

  • Configure the IIS website to Preload Enabled = True

  • Check the ProGet cleanup interval: for all feeds this is a frequency of 1 day between 2:00 and 7:00. I read that ProGet reindexes feeds whenever cleanup occurs and that this slows down a lot; however nobody works between those hours.

  • Configure the IIS application pool Recycling Regular Time Interval. This has a default value of 1740 minutes or 29 hours. I have set this to 0.

  • Configure the IIS application pool Idle Time-Out: it is set to 10 minutes by default. I have set the Idle Time-Out to 0 (=never let the IIS worker process shut down).

  • Configure the IIS application pool Specific Times: 01:00:00.

Are there any other measurements I should take or do you have more advice?

I recently upgraded to ProGet 3.6.1 (Build 6) and I'm using IIS hosting and a SQL Server Express database.

Successfully installed Build Master on 2012 server, with database in SQL 2014. I set it up to use integrated security and added the app-pool user to the database with BuildMasterUser_Role AND db_owner role. Yet when I run webapp on localhost:81 I get the error: Could not find stored procedure 'Configuration_GetConfiguration'.
The store proc is in the database. What is it the I need to do to make it work.
Here is the stack trace it is showing with the error:

I'm testing out the maven feed, and I noticed the disk path doesn't seem to be something I can update in the Proget UI.

For example, my maven feed's path is:

C:\ProgramData\ProGet\Packages.maven2\F9

and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it using the "Manage Feed" section.

Can this value be changed, so I can have this pointing to a separate disk location? If so, how?

Also I noticed there doesn't seem to be a distinction between snapshot and release feeds like you might find in other repo managers, like archiva, nexus, etc. That's probably OK, but I just wanted to know if that's correct? Or am I'm seeing side effects of using the free version of ProGet?

Thanks

For example, when creating an artifact it would be useful to name it $DeployableName_$BuildNumber, or $DeployableName_$Date1_$BuildNumber. However, the only function I've had any success with so far is $BuildNumber - the others in this example are simply treated literally. Is this expected behaviour? Is there any documentation that covers which functions can be used in which situations?

Thank!

We've just upgraded from version 4.6.4 of Buildmaster to 4.7.3 and have encountered what appears to be numerous breaking changes that don't appear to be documented anywhere in change notes.

Issue #1:
Mercurial extension failed to load after upgrading Buildmaster. We uninstalled the extension and re-added it only to find that there was an update we had never been notified about through the extensions page. Fortunately upgrading the extension fixed this issue.

Issue #2:
Source control providers now apparently have a name by each repository and the name defaults to a blank string. This would be fine except for the fact that Buildmaster requires this to match the name of the local repository clone folder for each repository. We currently have 122 repositories configured through Buildmaster and this was a nightmare to hack the Buildmaster database in order to get basic build functionality restored again.

Issue #3:
Repositories have moved from an HgRepositories directory to a SrcRepos directory. After we finally resolved Issue #2 we had to manually copy all the repository clones from the original directory to the new directory to get builds working again as they weren't being cloned in a timely manner.

Issue #4 (currently unresolved):
We now get a server error 500 whenever we try to clone our template application to create a new one. Looking through the event logs I can see this message:

547160Applications_CloneApplication195`The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK__VariableDefinitions__Releases". The conflict occurred in database "BuildMaster", table "dbo.Releases".

I've looked through the affected stored procedure and have hacked a couple of select statements in to try and diagnose the problem.
Here is the statement throwing the exception:

--==[VariableDefinitions: Application Variables]==--
PRINT 'VariableDefinitions: Application variables...'
INSERT INTO [VariableDefinitions]
(
[Variable_Name]
,[Environment_Id]
,[Server_Id]
,[ApplicationGroup_Id]
,[Application_Id]
,[Deployable_Id]
,[Release_Number]
,[Build_Number]
,[Value_Text]
,[Execution_Id]
,[Sensitive_Indicator]
)
SELECT
[Variable_Name]
,[Environment_Id]
,[Server_Id]
,[ApplicationGroup_Id]
,@New_Application_Id
,[Deployable_Id]
,[Release_Number]
,[Build_Number]
,[Value_Text]
,[Execution_Id]
,[Sensitive_Indicator]
FROM [VariableDefinitions] VD
WHERE VD.[Application_Id] = @Application_Id

This is trying to insert Application_Id/Release_Number combinations that don't exist in the Releases table such that FK constraints are being violated. We have release 1.0.0, 1.0.1 etc for the template application, however the clone stored procedure only creates a release of 0.0.0 for the new application so this will never work.

Suggestions:
We are currently in a state where rolling back to an earlier VM snapshot and losing data is probably our only option to get application creation functionality back. The whole upgrade has been problematic and has been made worse by the fact that we had little to no warning some of these breaking changes were being introduced.

Can you please put some more details into the change notes, especially highlighting breaking changes that may affect existing production systems.

Mercurial Extension Notes:
http://inedo.com/buildmaster/extension-release-notes/Mercurial#v4.5
It would be nice to know what was going on in each version rather than just the fact a new version was released.

Buildmaster Extension Notes:
http://inedo.com/buildmaster/versions
Gives an overview of bug fixes but there is no blaring warning that any of the changes would be breaking.

We would like the option to deploy and host ProGet as a website. For example, in either a shared hosting environment as a website or as a web app on Azure. ProGet has a wizard driven installer, and I chose the IIS site option, that sets up a website and a windows service. I have a few questions in regards to this:

  1. Is it possible to setup ProGet as a website like I am trying to do?

  2. What is the purpose of the website itself versus the windows service? Is the windows service really necessary if we have the IIS site?

After installing ProGet I'm getting the following message.

There was an error with a connector:

The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel.

What does this mean and should I be concerned with this? I'm not experiencing any residual effects from it...not that I know of.

Thanks.

We're trying to integrate with our Active Directory domain, and it's not working - the circle is spinning when we try to add a user/principal from active directory. The UI isn't much help, nor the docs. Are there some logs we can look at?

we are wanting to install Proget on a new server but don't know how to export the data out of SQL Express to get it into what will be created as the new database. I've attempted to connect with SQL management studio utilizing my account which I know is a local administrator on the server where Proget is installed but that doesn't work. Is there a local SQL ID/password that I should be using to connect or am I approaching this totally wrong. Thank you in advance.

I am looking for some clarification on how Count affects the retention policy. Recently we started having issue with the deployment server using all available disk space. Beyond adding a monitoring policy we wanted to add retention policy so BuildMaster did some grooming of what we are retaining. For a particular application group, I set the retention policy to keep a count of 10. I expected it to keep that last 10 builds for each of the applications in the application group. It appears to have keep only the last 10 across the entire application group. Is that what it is doing? How would I get what I want related to retaining the last 10 items of each application without configuring retention for each application?

We're setting up the firewall rules for an agent within a restricted environment, and need to specify the Application Layer Protocol being used.

Can you tell us what the Application Layer Protocol for the Self Hosted Agent is?

Can you also confirm whether the IIS Hosted agent uses SOAP over HTTP?

Many thanks,

Hi,

After upgrading to 4.7.1 Subversion & Git extensions wouldn't load. I've deleted both. Subversion then installed OK, but Git doesn't.

Hi There.

Our ProGet home page takes about 10-20 seconds to load. I suspect that's because of the "Latest News from Inedo" section. Our ProGet runs behind a firewall and doesn't have access to inedo.com website. It probably takes some time after it receives a timeout and home page can load. Every other page is lightning fast.

Is there a way to disable the news section?
Or maybe there's some other known issue explaining why the home page takes ages to load?

Cheers!

The Mercurial 4.4 extension does not load correctly with BuildMaster 4.7.1. The following error is reported on the extensions screen:

This leads to the following stack traces in the logs when automated builds attempt to trigger:
