Initial ProGet Infrastructure design and package distribution scenarios.

  • Greetings
Michael Pitcher here, Senior Systems engineer with Cornerstone OnDemand and I am working on the design and implementation of ProGet infrastructure across four of our data centers, two in North America and two in Europe. I am looking for HA design and distribution configuration guidance beyond what I have seen in the docs on the website. Is there a support person I can speak with that has had experience with the typical HA infrastructure design at this scale? I am looking for SQL DB considerations and typical package distribution scenarios. We currently are licensed for ProGet Enterprise and BuildMaster Enterprise, though from initial research I don't believe BuildMaster is required for this package distribution solution. Thanks in advance for the help. The goal is to implement ProGet as an HA Chocolatey repository and package distribution network quickly at an enterprise level and to outline the infrastructure in preparation for the server builds and product installation. Thanks.

    Product: ProGet
    Version: 4.7.9

  • I see you also opened a ticket, so it's going to be best to collaborate on that instead. But I will respond here as well in case anyone finds this...

Unless you're entirely distributing third-party, vendor-provided packages (i.e. you don't move them through a pipeline like Dev > Test > Prod), then BuildMaster is quite important to manage this pipeline , especially in regulated environments.

Regarding HA, it's best to first come up with a list of questions you'd like us to help with, and then we can research and figure out how best to help. For example, we can't really help on selecting or configuring a particular brand of load balancer; that's something generally done by your IT/NetOps folks, but we could point you to Microsoft's NLB documentation (which has step-by-step instructions on how to set it up).
