Manually installing or updating software on 1,000 Windows workstations isn’t just time-consuming—it’s also prone to errors.
With Chocolatey, you can automate these tasks at scale through an app store-like interface that provides thousands of community packages accessible through a simple command-line tool.
But it comes with a learning curve and is not quite ready for organizations out of the box, even for people who are already familiar with packages, versions, and licenses.
To help you out, we’re hosting a “Chocolatey for the Enterprise” webinar. This must-watch webinar is for using Chocolatey to simplify and automate software deployment across Windows machines, helping you shorten the learning curve.
What Will You Learn?
- What is Chocolatey?
- How does Chocolatey work?
- What are Community Packages?

- How to distribute software using Chocolatey
- Chocolatey for Air-Gapped and Offline Environments
Sneak Peek: 3 risks of using community packages
Chocolatey provides a streamlined solution for managing software on thousands of workstations. However, using community packages in an enterprise environment comes with risks;
1. Community packages might be insecure: Community packages are managed by the Chocolatey community and Chocolatey.org is not responsible for any security issues.
2. Installer might be insecure or unavailable: Chocolatey packages are just PowerShell scripts in zip files that download installers from websites. For example, PDF reader from Adobe.com. An older version that your organization uses might become unavailable, or worse, contains a PowerShell script that has been tampered with and downloads a virus instead of the installer.
3. Compliance with complicated commercial licenses and quirky open-source licenses: Chocolatey packages can be installed easily and without oversight, but it’s not always clear what’s allowed in your organization, opening the door to possible breaches of license agreements.
On top of this, Chocolatey.org has strict rate-limiting policies in place, which means that your entire organization might be temporarily blocked.
