TFS configuration

  • I have also been trying to get Buildmaster to talk to TFS. I have had some success

I have set up a TFS source control and Issue tracker. Both connections when I test them work. I can build an application and run a simple test.

First, a problem that I fixed which I want to make you aware of.

Initially the Apply Label action failed due to The user or group name Daborn, Tim (Admin) contains unsupported characters, is empty, or too long. ---> System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: TF10158: The user or group name Daborn, Tim (Admin) contains unsupported characters, is empty, or too long.

Changing my user name in TFS to remove the brackets and the comma fixed that.

Next, where I am stuck. But when I try to associate the issue tracker with the application I get:
An error occurred while loading this provider: Access Denied: Tim Daborn needs the following permission(s) to perform this action: Edit collection-level information.

Except I have them . In TFS Admin I have even set my permissions from 'inherited allow' to 'allow'.

Is this a limitation with the express edition? (I also have TFS express 2012 as well as Buildmaster express)

  • Strange, those error messages are coming directly from the TFS SDK. Are you perhaps using hosted TFS? I've found an MSDN thread that might detail why you're seeing that message: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/b50ee81b-b2cc-449c-8deb-3d9bafc84d58/access-denied-elastic-build-needs-the-following-permissions-to-perform-this-action-edit?forum=TFService
